Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable Activities

Community Resource Materials
Baskets with tri-fold cards or posters containing resource information are placed in women’s restrooms in local faith communities, schools, businesses and medical and dental offices. These cards and posters contain Emergency Hotline numbers for local shelters as well as abuse, stress and suicide prevention hotline numbers. Volunteers are needed to contact a particular business for permission to distribute these materials and then they are responsible for re-stocking the items in the various restrooms. If you would like to help distribute resource materials or would like to host our materials, please send your name, phone number and email address to our contact email.

Valentine Gift Bags

The Roundtable collects items for Valentine’s Day and fills gift bags for women, men and children temporarily living in local shelters. These bags are then given to three local shelters. Some examples of items are gift cards for CVS, Target, Friendly’s, grocery stores etc. For mothers in the shelters some items would include bath products, socks, cosmetics, nail polish, hair products, phone cards, journals, postage stamps etc. Items for children should be age appropriate from crayons, coloring books and non-violent toys to bath and hair products, to books and diaries. In past years the Roundtable has provided as many as 125 bags to the various shelters.

Shower for Shelters (Springtime)
The Shower for Shelters is a week-long drive to collect much-needed items for families who have fled from their homes due to domestic violence. These items help families set up new apartments as well as supply local Shelters and Transitional Housing Programs with items for their residents. Donation sites are located in the town libraries listed below.

Each library has a complete list of items needed. Some of the items include non-perishable food, dish sets, pots and pans, kitchen utensils, blankets, towels, sheets, cleaning supplies, diapers, first-aid items, feminine hygiene products, paper towels, bake ware, infant and toddler clothing, non-violent toys, coloring books, and laundry detergent to name a few. Monetary donations in the form of gift cards and phone cards are also accepted. The Roundtable asks that all items be new. The items can be dropped off at the following locations:

Sudbury: Goodnow Library, 21 Concord Road
Lincoln: Lincoln Public Library, 3 Bedford Road
Wayland: Wayland Public Library, 5 Concord Road

Holiday Gift Drive
To help brighten the December holidays for families that have left an abusive situation, the Roundtable sponsors one or two families from local shelter programs. Volunteers, members, and community groups provide clothing, toys, household items etc. from lists that have been provided by the shelters. These items are then delivered, unwrapped, to a coordinator at the local shelters.
