Bullying Publications For Educators

“Quit It! A Teacher’s Guide on Teasing and Bullying for use with students in grades K-3” by Merle Froschl, Barbara Sprung and Nancy Mullin-Rindler with Nan Stein and Nancy Gropper. (1998) A joint publication of the Wellesley College Center for Research on Women, Educational Equity Concepts, and the NEA Profession Library. 121 pp. #CRW 18.

Contains ten lessons focused around three sequential themes. Each lesson is divided into activities geared to the developmental needs of students in kindergarten through grade three. Class discussions, role plays, creative drawing and writing activities, physical games and exercises and connections to children's literature give children the vocabulary and a conceptual framework that allows them to understand the distinction between teasing and bullying.

“Bullyproof: A Teacher’s Guide on Teasing and Bullying for use with fourth and fifth grade students” by Nan Stein and Lisa Sjostrom. (1996) A joint publication of the Wellesley College Center for Research on Women and the NEA Professional Library. 60 pp. #CRW 12

Contains eleven sequential lessons. Class discussions, role plays, case studies, writing exercises, reading assignments, art activities, and nightly homework combine to give students the opportunity to explore and determine the fine distinctions between teasing and bullying. Children gain a conceptual framework and a common vocabulary that allows them to find their own links between teasing and bullying and, eventually, sexual harassment.

“Selected Bibliography about Teasing and Bullying for grades K-8” researched and compiled by Nancy Mullin-Rindler. (2003) 105 pp. CRW Special Report #RL 102 Revised

This new updated annotated bibliography contains hundreds of listings of children’s literature, classroom resource materials, audiovisual selections, internet resources, and references for teachers and parents. An introductory section provides a conceptual framework for understanding bullying.
