There are many common myths about what domestic abuse is, who experiences domestic abuse and who acts in a controlling or abusive way toward their partner. Abuse is often thought of as an issue that only or primarily affects certain communities or people with certain incomes, education levels or racial/cultural identities.

The reality, though, is that abuse is an issue in all communities, regardless of their demographic makeup.
